Thornleigh School of Arts
Thornleigh School of Arts opened in 1890. The building had a hall, reading room and library. The hotel opened for business in 1891 with Mr R Palmer as publican. The building just visible on the far left is Thornleigh Picture Show. The door on street corner of the Royal Hotel became the entrance to Thornleigh Post Office.

Thornleigh Maltworks
Photograph of watercolour painting by J Woods. The maltworks were established in 1913 and, operated by the NSW Malting Company, became the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The Brickworks is depicted in the background.
